Description
Scandia Wood Heater Fittings Gasket Adhesive & Sealant is a high-temperature paste made for fixing fibreglass rope seals and gaskets on wood heaters, stoves and fireplaces, supplied in a handy 75g tube. It helps rope seals stay put around door edges and flue joins while you work, then holds them in place once it has dried. This makes it a practical choice for replacing worn seals during heater maintenance.
About the formula
A thick, cream to white paste with a firm body that stays where you put it, even on vertical surfaces. The manufacturer rates it for temperatures up to 1100°C, which suits the heat inside a solid fuel appliance. The tube comes with a nozzle that you can cut to suit the width of the seal or gasket you are fitting, so you can lay down a neat, controlled line of adhesive.
Where to use it
Indoors: fibreglass rope seals on heater and stove doors, flue joins, and other gaskets or glass seals on wood-burning heaters, stoves and fireplaces.
Outdoors: the brand also lists wood-burning BBQs among its intended uses.
Designed mainly for bonding fibreglass rope seals to the metal and masonry parts of a solid fuel appliance. If you plan to use it on another material, check suitability first with a small test.
How to use it
Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of soot, loose debris, oil and old adhesive. Cut the tip of the nozzle to suit the seal you are fitting. Apply a line of paste to the channel or edge where the seal will sit, then press the rope seal or gasket firmly into place. Wipe away any excess before it dries.
Important notes
Allow the adhesive to dry overnight after application before lighting the appliance. Always follow your heater manufacturer's instructions for the correct seal size and fitting method. Always check the seal is fully seated and the door closes properly after fitting. Some users have found the paste firm to squeeze from the tube, so cutting the nozzle a little wider and applying steady pressure can help.
