Description
Selleys Liquid Nails Timberflex is a flexible, trowel-grade timber flooring adhesive for fixing solid, engineered strip and sheet timber floors to concrete and timber subfloors, supplied here as a single 600ml sausage pack. It is a good fit for smaller flooring jobs, patch work and trial areas where a full pail is more than you need.
About the formula
Timberflex uses a silyl modified polymer (MS polymer) technology, which Selleys describes as isocyanate free and solvent free. It stays flexible once cured so the floor can move naturally. It forms clean, stable ridges under the trowel and gives good wet grab and initial hold. It spreads easily across a wide application range of 5°C to 40°C and is a low VOC product that meets Green Building Council requirements.
Where to use it
Indoors: engineered overlay flooring (prefinished and bamboo) and most types of solid timber, strip and sheet flooring, bonded to common subfloors such as plywood, particleboard, existing strip flooring, fibre cement sheet and concrete, including over acoustic matting.
Outdoors: not recommended. This is an interior flooring adhesive and is not intended for wet areas.
Suitable materials include plywood, particleboard, existing timber flooring, fibre cement sheet and steel-trowelled concrete.
How to use it
Surfaces must be clean, sound and level to within 3mm over 3m, because out-of-level floors increase the risk of hollow spots under strip timber. Grind concrete to remove high spots, contaminants and weak surface layers, and sand timber subfloors to remove old glue and other contaminants. Concrete should have a steel-trowel type finish. Over concrete, Selleys recommends a vapour barrier such as Liquid Nails VBS before laying to prevent moisture migration and swelling of the timber. Slab moisture content should be below 5.5% and moisture vapour transmission below 15g/m² per 24 hours. Apply the adhesive to the subfloor and spread it with a suitable Selleys Direct Stick trowel, then lay the boards into the wet adhesive. Wipe uncured adhesive from tools, hands and prefinished boards with a damp cloth before it cures.
Important notes
Always follow Australian Standards, NCC requirements and best practice for timber floor installation. Allow about 24 hours for the adhesive to cure. The working time is about 45 minutes at 25°C and 50% relative humidity. Do not apply to dusty, greasy or damp surfaces. Cured adhesive is much harder to remove than wet adhesive, so clean up promptly.
