Description
Selleys Liquid Nails VBS Rapid is a two-part, water-based epoxy vapour barrier kit that seals concrete slabs before timber flooring goes down, supplied here as a 1.5L resin and hardener kit. Rolled onto a dry, stable slab, it helps block moisture vapour rising from the concrete into the floor above, and its fast-curing formula suits jobs where the flooring needs to go in quickly.
About the formula
A pigmented, water-based epoxy supplied as separate resin and hardener components that are mixed together just before use. The colour-coded parts blend to a uniform green, so it is easy to see when the mix is ready, and it is normally applied as a single coat. It has a low odour and can be cleaned up with water while still wet. It is designed to bond well with Selleys Liquid Nails timber flooring adhesives such as Timberflex.
Where to use it
Indoors: over structurally sound, dry concrete floor slabs, as a moisture vapour barrier under timber flooring that is fixed with a compatible Selleys flooring adhesive.
Outdoors: not intended for outdoor use.
Suitable surface: clean, dry and stable concrete slabs. Very porous concrete or slabs with high moisture content may need a second coat.
How to use it
Complete all your preparation and mark out the work area before you start mixing, because this product cures quickly. The slab must be clean, dry and sound, and free of curing compounds, oil, grease, wax, sealers, old coatings and adhesives. New concrete should have cured for at least 28 days or until its moisture content is below 5.5%. Mix the components thoroughly until the colour is even, with no streaks. Tip the mix onto the slab straight away rather than leaving it in the pail, then roll it on with a short-nap mohair roller and cut in the edges with a brush. If a second coat is needed, apply it after the first has cured and before 24 hours have passed. Clean tools with water before the product cures.
Important notes
Do not apply over damp or contaminated surfaces, or when the temperature is below 10°C or above 35°C. Cure time is rapid and the film is tack-free within hours, but allow for conditions on site such as temperature and slab porosity. Check coverage against your slab: Selleys states roughly 6 to 8 m² per litre per coat. This product is a vapour barrier system, not a flooring adhesive, so use a compatible flooring adhesive over the cured coating.
