Description
Sika SikaBond 142 Instant Nails is a high-strength, multipurpose construction adhesive for fixing panels, timber and sheeting, supplied here as a trade pack of twelve 300g cartridges for busy sites and larger renovation jobs. It is a ready-to-use, single-component adhesive with a thick body that stays put on vertical surfaces, so it suits fixing work where you would otherwise reach for extra nails or screws.
About the formula
A one-component synthetic rubber adhesive in a beige, non-slump paste. It can be used as a one-way adhesive (apply to one surface and join straight away) or as a two-way contact adhesive (apply, press together, separate, let it skin, then rejoin). It has a short skinning time of about 1 to 5 minutes, and a bond that develops quickly. The cured adhesive can be painted over.
Where to use it
Indoors: floor and wall panels, timber, particleboard, MDF and plywood fixed to frames, plus plasterboard and similar sheet linings.
Outdoors: cement sheeting, fibreglass, concrete and masonry fixing jobs that are not constantly wet or immersed.
Suitable materials include floor and wall panels, timber, particleboard, MDF, plywood, plasterboard, aluminium, iron and steel, concrete, cement sheeting, fibreglass and masonry. Test an offcut first if you are working with a material that is not on this list.
How to use it
Make sure surfaces are sound, clean, dry and free of dust, oil, grease and loose material. Cut the nozzle and apply the adhesive in a bead with a standard caulking gun. For the one-way method, bring the surfaces together straight away and press firmly. For the two-way method, press the surfaces together to transfer the adhesive, pull them apart, wait for it to skin over, then rejoin them with firm pressure. Tapping the work with a hammer and a padded block helps ensure full contact. Heavy panels may need temporary mechanical fixing until the bond has developed. Clean tools straight away with Sika Colma Cleaner or mineral turpentine. Once cured, the adhesive can only be removed mechanically.
Important notes
Maximum bond strength is reached in about 12 to 72 hours, and full cure takes about 7 days depending on weather conditions. Do not use it for immersed applications, do not apply it when the temperature is below 5°C, and avoid damp, unseasoned or treated timber. Store unopened cartridges in a dry place between 5°C and 25°C. Shelf life is 18 months from the production date.
