Description
SikaBond-142 Instant Nails is a high strength, multipurpose construction adhesive for panels, timber, metal and masonry, supplied here as a convenient 3 pack of 300g cartridges. It has a thick, non-slump body that stays put on vertical surfaces, and it can be used as a one-way liquid adhesive or as a two-way contact adhesive depending on the job.
About the formula
A one-component, ready-to-use adhesive based on synthetic rubber, supplied in a solvent-based form and finished in a beige colour. It dries fast, grips firmly and can be painted over once cured. Sika's data sheet lists a tensile strength above 1 MPa on a dry substrate (tested to AS 2329) and a peel adhesion above 40 N. Once set, it is rated for service temperatures from 0°C to +40°C.
Where to use it
Indoors: floor and wall panels, skirting and other trim, and timber or board products bonded to timber, metal or masonry backgrounds.
Outdoors: Sika's data sheet does not confirm exterior use or weather exposure, so check the data sheet and test a small area first if the bond will be exposed to the elements.
Suitable materials include timber, particleboard, MDF and plywood, aluminium, iron and steel, concrete, cement sheeting, fibreglass and masonry. It is also commonly used on plasterboard. Always test a small area first on any surface you are unsure about.
How to use it
- Make sure surfaces are clean, dry and free of dust, grease and loose material.
- Cut the cartridge nozzle and load it into a caulking gun.
- For a one-way bond, apply the adhesive to one surface and press the parts together firmly.
- For a two-way contact bond, apply to both surfaces and join them as directed on the pack.
- The adhesive begins to skin over in roughly 1 to 5 minutes, so have your parts ready and work promptly.
- Apply it between +5°C and +40°C substrate temperature.
- One cartridge covers roughly 15 linear metres with a continuous 5mm bead.
Important notes
Full cure takes approximately 7 days, depending on weather conditions. It is not suitable for immersed applications. Keep unopened cartridges in their original sealed packaging in dry conditions between +5°C and +25°C. Shelf life is 18 months from the date of production.
