Stanley FatMax 3 Vial Magnetic Torpedo Level 11-3/4 Inch (0-43-609)

Description

The Stanley FatMax 3 Vial Magnetic Torpedo Level is a compact, tough die-cast aluminium level for tradies and DIYers who need dependable readings in tight spots. Three vials let you check level, plumb and angles, and the magnetic base keeps it in place on steel so you can work hands-free.

About the product
The body is die-cast aluminium, built to cope with knocks on the job site. Solid block vials give a stated accuracy of 0.5mm per metre (0.0005in/in). The centre vial is magnified so it is easier to read at a glance, and a vial that rotates through 180 degrees lets you copy an angle from one spot to another. Rare earth magnets in the base are described by the manufacturer as twice as strong as basic strip magnets, and a pipe groove helps the level sit steadily on round surfaces.

Where to use it
Indoors: levelling shelving, cabinets, ducting, fixtures and machinery, and checking small framing and metal brackets in tight spaces.
Outdoors: setting out pipework, conduit and fittings, and checking steel posts, brackets and frames on site.

How to use it

  • Place the machined base against the surface you want to check and read the level vial. The bubble should sit between the marked lines.
  • Use the plumb vial to check vertical faces.
  • Turn the 180 degree rotating vial to the angle you need and transfer it to a new position to duplicate the angle.
  • On steel surfaces the magnetic base holds the level in place. On pipes and other round surfaces, seat the level in the pipe groove.
  • To check the level is true, take a reading, turn the level end for end on the same surface and read it again. The bubble should sit in the same position both times.

Important notes
The magnets hold on steel and other ferrous metal, not on timber, plastic or masonry. Keep the magnetic base clear of metal filings and grit so it sits flat and reads true. Avoid dropping the level onto hard surfaces, as impact can affect vial accuracy. A carry case is not included.
