Description
The Stanley Retractable Trimming Knife (model 10-099) is a classic all-metal utility knife for trimming, scoring and cutting, supplied with three heavy duty blades so you can start work straight away. It has a slim 6 inch (152mm) handle, a sliding blade with locking positions and spare blade storage built into the body, which makes it a dependable everyday knife for the toolbox, workshop or tool belt.
About the product
The die-cast metal handle is light in the hand but built to take regular use. An interlocking nose holds the blade firmly in place, which helps keep cuts steady and accurate. The slide lets you choose how much blade is exposed, from fully extended for deeper cuts to partly retracted for shallow trimming and detail work, so you only expose as much blade as the job needs. Three No. 11-921 heavy duty blades come in the pack, and extra blades can be stored inside the handle.
Where to use it
Indoors: trimming and scoring plasterboard, cutting carpet, underlay and sheet flooring, opening cartons, and cutting tape, paper, foam board and packaging.
Outdoors: cutting building wrap, roofing underlay and other sheet materials on site, and general trimming around the yard, shed or job site.
How to use it
- Slide the blade out to the position that suits the cut, and keep it retracted as far as practical for better control.
- Cut away from your body and keep your free hand clear of the cutting line.
- To change a blade, undo the screw holding the handle together using a screwdriver, swap in a fresh blade, then refit and tighten the screw.
- Keep spare blades in the handle so they are on hand when the edge dulls.
- Retract the blade fully when you are finished or put the knife down.
Important notes
A dull blade needs more force and is more likely to slip, so change blades as soon as cutting becomes harder. Always cut onto a stable surface that you do not mind marking. This knife is intended for adult use only.

Care and storage
Retract the blade fully before storing the knife, and keep it out of reach of children. Wipe the handle clean and dry after use, and store it in a dry place to protect the metal and blades from moisture. Dispose of used blades safely, for example in a sturdy sealed container.
