Description
The Timbermate Timber Touch Up Kit gives you a water-based wood filler and a set of wax touch-up crayons in four timber shades, so you can deal with dents, gaps and scratches around the house without sanding back a whole surface. It suits furniture, floors, door and window frames, architraves, staircases and picture frames, and it is simple enough for first-time repairers.
About the formula
The kit pairs two products. Timbermate is a water-based, interior grade wood filler made without acrylic or latex, which is why it resists shrinking, sinking, cracking and falling out of the repair. The pre-mixed colours can also be tinted with any stain or colourant to fine-tune a match. It has an indefinite shelf life, and if it dries out in the tub it can be reconstituted. Waxstix are synthetic wax crayons that contain no beeswax, so repairs accept coatings and avoid the pale ring that beeswax-based products can leave around the edges. Several sticks can be blended to match a colour or to imitate grain.
Where to use it
Indoors: touch-ups on timber furniture, floors, staircases, architraves, window and door frames and picture frames.
Outdoors: not recommended, as this kit is intended for interior use only.
Suitable for timber surfaces. The filler can be sanded, stained or painted once dry, and Waxstix repairs can be coated over.
How to use it
Clean the damaged area and make sure it is free of dust and loose material. For gaps, holes and dents, press the woodfiller in with a scraper or putty knife, let it dry, then sand flush before staining, painting or coating. For most scratches, simply rub a Waxstix across the damage. For deeper marks, warm the stick with a flame and let the hot wax flow into the area. Scrape off any excess with a plastic scraper or a piece of cardboard. Blend more than one stick if you need a closer colour match.
Important notes
Drying time for the filler depends on how deep the fill is, so allow extra time for deeper repairs before sanding. Colour is easiest to judge by testing on an offcut or an out-of-sight spot first. Keep the lid on the tub when not in use to prevent it drying out. Not intended for exterior timber.

Safety
Use with normal care. Work in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves if you prefer to keep your hands clean. If you heat a Waxstix, keep flammable materials away, take care with the hot wax and let it cool before handling. Keep out of reach of children and store the tubs sealed in a cool, dry place.
