Description
Turbo Builders Bog Hardener is the red catalyst paste that turns Turbo Builders Bog and other polyester body fillers from a workable putty into a hard, sandable repair, supplied here in a 40g pack. You control how fast the filler sets by adjusting how much hardener you add, so you can slow things down for a big fill or speed them up on a cold day.
About the formula
A red paste made from 50% benzoyl peroxide in an emulsion base, designed as the second component for Turbo Builders Bog and body fillers. Once it is mixed through the filler, it starts a chemical reaction that cures the repair from the inside out. Turbo also positions its red hardener for use with its Concrete Bog and Metal Bog, and for other polyester fillers.
Where to use it
Indoors: repairing timber architraves, door frames, skirtings, window sashes, benches and furniture with Turbo Builders Bog.
Outdoors: rebuilding rotted window sills, door bases and weatherboards, and filling dents in vehicle panels with polyester body filler.
Use it with Turbo Builders Bog, Turbo Concrete Bog, Turbo Metal Bog and other polyester body fillers. The hardener is not a stand-alone product, so it is always mixed into a compatible filler.
How to use it
Prepare the repair area first. For timber, it should be clean, dry, unpainted, roughened and free of rot. Scoop out the amount of filler you need onto a clean, flat, non-absorbent surface, add the hardener, and mix thoroughly until the colour is completely uniform with no white or red streaks. As a guide from Turbo's mixing directions for Builders Bog, about 2.5g of hardener to 100g of filler gives a gel time of roughly 7 minutes at 22°C. Use more hardener in cold weather or for a faster set, and less in hot weather or when you need more working time. Always stay within the mixing range printed on your filler's tin or pack. Apply the mix promptly with a flat spreader. Once it gels to a firm, cheese-like stage you can trim, grate or shape it. Allow it to cure fully, then sand and paint.
Important notes
Mixing ratios and set times vary with temperature, the amount mixed and the thickness of the fill, so mix small test batches if you are unsure. Warmer conditions need less hardener for the same set time. Too little hardener can leave the filler soft or slow to cure, so do not go below the range on the filler's directions. Once hardener is mixed in, the filler cannot be re-softened, so only mix what you can apply in the working time.
