Description
Turbo Metal Builders Bog is a two part, aluminium and glass fibre reinforced polyester filler for rusted metal, dents, cracks, holes and tears, supplied here as a 500ml can. It is aimed at panel beaters, builders and DIYers who want a hard, workable repair that can go over or under ordinary body filler for extra strength, and which also works on fibreglass, wood, stone, concrete and aluminium.
About the formula
The filler is a paste based on unsaturated polyester resin in styrene, loaded with aluminium so you can repair metal with a metal-filled compound, and with glass fibre strands that help bridge holes and gaps. Once catalysed with a separate peroxide-based hardener, the mix gels to a cheese-like consistency that can be cut, shaped or pared, then cures hard. Changing the amount of hardener lets you speed up or slow down the set to suit the job and the weather. Turbo describes it as having minimal shrinkage, good stress resistance and flexibility, water resistance and rust-inhibiting properties.
Where to use it
Indoors: repairing holes, cracks and damaged areas in fibreglass, wood, stone and concrete, and filling larger voids where a standard filler would sag or shrink.
Outdoors: rusted-out panels, dents and holes in metal, vehicle bodywork and similar repairs, plus cracked or broken concrete, masonry and aluminium items exposed to weather.
Suitable materials include steel and other metals, aluminium, fibreglass, wood, stone, concrete and masonry. It can be used instead of, or underneath, regular plastic body filler.
How to use it
Start with a clean, dry, sound surface, free of loose rust, paint, oil, grease and dust, and roughen smooth surfaces for a better key. Work out how much filler you need and mix it with the hardener following the directions on the can, stirring until the colour is completely uniform. Because cure speed depends on temperature and the amount of hardener, try a small batch first. Press the mix firmly into the repair, building up and shaping it while it is still soft. Once it has gelled you can trim it, then sand, file, drill, machine and paint it after it has cured hard.
Important notes
This is a two part system and will not cure without the hardener, so check the hardener is on hand before you start. More hardener or warmer conditions will shorten the working time, and less hardener will lengthen it. Full cure is typically within about 30 to 60 minutes, and the repair can be painted within the hour, though times vary with temperature and mix. The cured filler is paintable but not stainable. For large structural repairs on metal, make sure the underlying area is sound.

Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames and hot surfaces, and do not smoke. Use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, avoid breathing vapours, and avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.
