  Sika Firerate is a gunnable acrylic based jointing and sealing compound specially formulated with inorganic fillers to provide a fire barrier. Sika Firerate has been tested for fire resistance for up to 4 hours according to AS 1530.4 in masonry wall and floor joints. USE Sika Firerate is suitable for sealing joints in concrete or masonry that must have a fire rated resistance to Australian Standards. Sika Firerate also fulfils the basic function of a gap filler and joint sealant against water and dust penetration. CHARACTERISTICS AND ADVANTAGES Safe to use – contains no asbestos or fibres. Paintable. Good flexibility and adhesion to concrete and masonry. Interior use only. Easily applied with normal caulking equipment. Easy tooling off. Economical – single product for both fireproofing and sealing functions. Water clean-up of tools and equipment while still uncured. Excellent acoustic performance, test report available. APPROVALS / STANDARDS • AS 1530.4 FRL • ISO 717.2 Rw (Ctr) = 64 (-13) SUBSTRATE PREPARATION The substrate must be clean, dry, sound and homogeneous, free from oils, grease, dust and loose or friable particles. Sika® Firerate adheres without primers and/or activators. APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS Sika® Firerate is supplied ready to use. After the necessary substrate preparation, insert a suitable backing rod to the required depth and apply any primer if necessary. Insert a foil pack or cartridge into the sealant gun and extrude Sika® Firerate into the joint making sure that it comes into full contact with the sides of the joint and avoids any air entrapment. Sika® Firerate sealant must be firmly tooled against the joint sides to ensure adequate adhesion. It is recommended to use masking tape where exact joint lines or neat lines are required. Remove the tape within the skin time. Do not use tooling products containing solvents. Water can be used if wet tooling is required. CLEANING OF TOOLS Clean all tools and application equipment immediately after use with water. Once cured, residual material can only be removed mechanically LIMITATIONS • Sika® Firerate may be overpainted with solvent free paints. • Do not use Sika® Firerate on damp and/or wet substrates. • Do not apply Sika Firerate at temperatures below 5ºC • Do not use Sika® Firerate to seal joints in and around swimming pools. • Do not use Sika® Firerate to seal joints in external applications on non-porous substrates. • Do not use Sika® Firerate for joints under water pressure or for permanent water immersion. • Do not expose uncured Sika® Firerate to rain or water as this may interfere with the curing reaction. Minimum bed putty – 2mm, minimum front putty – 4mm where timber beads are used, and 2mm bed putty and 12mm front putty where no glazing beads are used. Depth of rebate: 10mm for 3-4mm glass, 15mm for 5-8mm glass. Two coats of good quality house paint should be applied not less than 2 weeks and not more than 4 weeks after completion of glazing. Cut the fibreglass mat to shape, allowing approximately 3cm overlap all round. Tease out the fibres along the edge of the mat to give a feathered edge. For wide holes, glue a piece of cardboard to the back of the hole to form a base. Mixing: For each tablespoon of resin, squeeze 5 drops of hardener from the small tube and mix together thoroughly. Do not prepare the mixture until required as only a limited time (20 minutes at 20°C) is available before the product gels. Application Position the mat and apply resin/hardener mixture with a clean, dry brush. Be sure to impregnate the mat completely, working out all air bubbles. Add more mat and resin/hardener mixture to build up or contour the patch as required. Finishing When the patch has completely hardened, (approximately 1-2 hours, depending on the temperature), it can be sanded to a smooth finish. Fill imperfections with more resin. Paint if required. Clean up product with Solvent Acetone before it cures Handy tips At higher temperatures, the working time decreases. Can only be tinted with iron oxide or other dry pigments .which must be mixed in very thoroughly. Surfaces to be joined should be clean and dry. If recommended amounts of hardener are not used, cure time will vary or an incomplete cure may result. A useful solvent to clean up epoxy and polyester resins BEFORE they are cured can be prepared by mixing 2 parts toluene with 1 part alcohol (eg methylated spirits or denatured alcohol). Its fast-curing properties make it an excellent choice for high-speed industrial applications that require a gel-like, viscous adhesive that does not spread or leak like traditional super glue. Ritetite Control works exceptionally well in poor-fitting applications such as rough metal or ceramic repairs, unfinished metal-to-metal bonding, and metal-to-rubber bonding due to its thick gel consistency. Surface Preparation prior to bonding with RITETITE CONTROL Surfaces should be clean, dry and grease-free before applying the adhesive. Use a suitable solvent (such as acetone or isopropanol) for the degreasing of surfaces. Some metals such as aluminum, copper and its alloys will benefit from light abrasion with emery cloth (or similar), to remove the oxide layer. RITETITE CONTROL Directions for use. 1) Apply the adhesive sparingly to one surface. 2) Then, bring the components together quickly and correctly aligned. 3) Apply sufficient pressure to ensure the adhesive spreads into a thin film. 4) Do not disturb or re-align until sufficient strength is achieved, normally in a few seconds. 5) Remove any surplus adhesive solvent, nitromethane, or acetone. NB: For difficult or porous surfaces using a RITETITE activator is recommended. If bonding polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE or silicone, prime first with a suitable primer.
