Where can this product be used? 10879.Window frames that need painting 102879.Capstones Masonry walls that need painting Perfect for use on or around: Bricks and concrete Windows frames Tiled and wooden fixtures Areas where a sealant is needed and where you want to paint it Not suitable for use in below waterline applications. Not suitable for use on oily woods such as cypress, teak or cedar. Not for use on polyethylene, polypropylene or Teflon. Pre-test plastics before use. What materials is this product suitable for? Glass Aluminium Fibre Cement Painted Surfaces Ceramics Masonry Most metals Most plastics Wood How to use this product Ensure you tape both sides of the gap before applying the product. This ensures a neat finish and makes it easier to clean up. When first applying product, extrude a small amount onto a piece of scrap material to ensure a smooth continuous flow of sealant. Remove the tape before the sealant skins. For a better finish use a spatula dipped in detergent and water to tool off the sealant. Allow the surfaces to skin prior to painting, which is approximately 30 minutes. Protect from rain until firmly skinned. Allow for longer skin and cure times in damp conditions. Some water based under coats & flat paints may crack on drying. To reduce this effect allows the product to cure for 24 hours in small gaps or 48 hours in larger gaps before painting with such paints. To improve the paint finish, wipe the sealant with detergent solution immediately before painting. Avoid smearing sealant on the surrounding surfaces as this may effects its paintability. Work in sections that can be completed before sealant skins. Tooling off and tape removal must be completed before skinning occurs or a rough surface may result so working in sections allows for a better finish. Keep a pack of SELLEYS Hand Kleen Wipes handy to wipe up any spills and for cleaning any material off the skin before it cures. They are an easy and effective way to keep clean on the job. Safety tips Uncured product may irritate eyes. If in eyes, flood the eyes for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice. Avoid contact with skin, if contact occurs, wipe off immediately and wash with detergent. It may irrtate sensitive skin. Avoid breathing in vapours. Ensure you use a well ventilated area as product releases methyl ethyl ketoxime while curing. For advice, contact a Poisons Information Centre (AUS 131 126; NZ 0800 764 766) or a doctor. For further detail on the safe use of this product, please refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet, which can be downloaded from this site. Keep away from children. Storage and re-use Store in cool dry conditions, below 30°C The sealant should be used within 6 months after opening. After use keep the nozzle on the cartridge Silicone is a reactive product and is designed to cure once exposed to air. While the product may be stored for a few months once opened, it does have a limited shelf life. Storage in an upright position in a cool dry place is recommended to maximise the storage life. If the sealant is going to be used again within a few days, leave the nozzle on and merely extrude approximately 2 cm of product before storing the cartridge upright. This will cure to a plug which can easily be pulled out when required. For longer storage periods, leave the nozzle on and place a piece of plasticene or Blu Tack over the end of the nozzle. Tightly tape a piece of aluminium foil over the whole nozzle to exclude any air. When you want to re-use the product, simply take off the foil and plug from the old nozzle pull out the excess silicone from the nozzle with a corkscrew, then re-pierce any cure at the tip of the cartridge and re-use. If cure has taken place into the cartridge, the product is unlikely to be in a useable state and should be discarded.

Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean and free of oil, grease, release agents, dust or loose particles. Porous surfaces should be prepared by grinding, brushing, wiping with cloths or blowing off with oil-free compressed air. Any laitance should be removed from concrete- based surfaces. Non-porous surfaces should be free of scale, rust or oxides and can be degreased with a solvent such as MEK, acetone or mineral turpentine. Some degreasing solvents may leave a residue that should be removed. For neat joints use masking tape on both sides of the joint and remove before skinning Joint Design: Refer to separate section. Cartridge: Cut tip and attach nozzle. Insert in the caulking gun. Cut nozzle to the size required for joint. Application: Extrude sealant smoothly into the joint, while ensuring that all substrates are well wetted out with sealant. Curing: The sealant cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture; therefore cure rate is dependent on humidity, ambient temperature and joint size. Typically, the sealant will form a thick skin within 24 hours and full cure can be expected after 7 days. In dry or cool conditions the sealant cure will be longer. Painting: Paintable with water-based paints after product skins (60 – 90 min). Allow longer times before painting in colder weather. Paint within 12 hours of application. Solvent-based paints may be used after first painting with a water-based paint. Due to a large number of paints and varnishes available, a preliminary test of compatibility is recommended. Joint Design For fire rating, joint width should be between 20mm and 40mm. Minimum joint depth should be 10mm or half the width for joints wider than 20mm.  A tight-fitting non-absorbent, non-adhering backing material should be used to ensure the correct dimensions and prevent three-surface adhesion. Suitable materials include open cell foam backer rod or bond-breaking tape.  Clean Up The uncured product can be removed with mineral turpentine. Cured product can be removed by mechanical action. Use Poly Cleaning Wipes to remove sealant from the skin. Handy Hints In dry conditions, surfaces can be misted with water to speed up cure. Limitations Not for permanent water immersion or below water-line use Not suitable for use on polyethylene, polypropylene or Teflon.

D-MASTIC is an oil-based sealant that forms a skin on exposure to air but remains soft underneath. Designed for sealing windscreens in cars, boats, trucks, and buses, and for metal lap joints in white goods, caravans, bus and truck bodies. Features Forms a surface skin, preventing transfer by touch and dirt pick-up on exposed surfaces Paintable with most alkyd and water-based paints (after the skin has formed). Easy clean-up off non-porous surfaces with mineral turpentine. Convenient to use non-slumping from vertical joints and easily extrudable. Long "open" time assists in the assembly of lap joints. Where can this product be used? Metals Paintwork Lacquered Work Machinery and Engines Sealing windscreens Metal lap joints in whitegoods and automotive bodies What materials is this product suitable for? Metal Glass Painted Surfaces Surfaces to be sealed must be clean, dry and free from dust, grease, old mastic and flaking paint. If necessary clean with degreasing solvent such as mineral turps. Cut nozzle supplied at an angle and to the required opening. Cut tip off cartridge, fit nozzle and insert in suitable caulking gun such as Selleys Light Speed caulking gun. If sealing lap joints, apply suitable size bead of D-Mastic to one surface through the intended fasten line. Bring surfaces together squeezing the mastic bead out on both surfaces and mechanically fix join where necessary. If sealing open joints, apply D-Mastic forcing it into the joint ahead of the nozzle. This method aids in properly filling the joint and forcing mastic to wet on to the sides of the joint. If required, smooth surface with spatula dipped into mineral turps or kerosene.  Limitations: Not an elastomeric compound, it should not be used in joints subject to considerable dynamic movement. Maximum service is achieved when used within joints; it is not recommended to be used as a"skim" coating over joints. Not recommended for use in joints required to resist static air or water pressure.  If sealing lap joints, apply suitable size bead of D-Mastic to one surface through the intended fasten line.  Bring surfaces together squeezing the mastic bead out on both surfaces and mechanically fix join where necessary.
