Davco Ultraflex is a premium grade, cement-based tile adhesive for walls and floors, supplied here as a 20kg bag for full tiling jobs. It is rubber modified, so it suits both rigid and flexible substrates, and it is rated for commercial work as well as home renovations.About the formulaA powder adhesive that you mix with clean water and apply with a notched trowel. The rubber modification gives it extra flexibility over framed and sheet substrates. It is suitable for use over early age screed (cured for 24 hours) and over under-tile heating. It is classified C1S1E under AS ISO 13007 and has a low VOC content of 5 g/L (SCAQMD method 304-91).Where to use itIndoors: living and dining areas, walkways and office spaces, on both walls and floors.Outdoors: external verandahs and decks, on both walls and floors.Suitable tiles include porcelain, ceramic, mosaic, terracotta, slate, quarry, granite and marble. Suitable substrates include cement render, blockwork and rendered brickwork, plasterboard, fibre cement sheet, compatible waterproofing membranes, timber floors (with fibre cement tile underlay installed), new concrete (cured for 7 days) and new screed (cured for 24 hours). The adhesive is not suitable for translucent tiles or for moisture sensitive stone such as green marble.How to use itMake sure the substrate is sound, firmly fixed, clean and free of dust, oil and loose material. Prime the surface where the data sheet calls for it (for example plasterboard, fibre cement sheet, screed and timber floors with tile underlay), using the Davco primer the manufacturer recommends for that substrate. Mix the powder with clean potable water to a smooth, lump-free consistency, about 7 litres of water per 20kg bag. Spread the adhesive with a notched trowel suited to your tile size and press the tiles firmly into place. A 20kg bag covers about 12m2 when applied with a 6mm notch trowel, and less with larger trowels. Clean tools with water while the adhesive is still fresh, and wipe wet adhesive off tile faces with a damp cloth. Cured adhesive is much harder to remove.Important notesAllow 6 to 8 hours before grouting. Check the manufacturer's data sheet for substrate preparation, primers and movement joint requirements before you start. Store unopened bags off the ground in cool, dry conditions. Shelf life is up to 12 months when stored this way. It spreads easily, stays flexible once cured and helps take the stress out of the bond between the timber and the substrate, which suits floors that need to move a little with the seasons.About the formulaA moisture-curing polyurethane that cures by reacting with humidity in the air, so it needs reasonable ambient moisture to set properly. The cured adhesive is elastic and dampens footfall sound. It is sandable along with the floor, and Sika rates it as low in VOCs. It is approved for use over underfloor heating and can be applied directly onto old ceramic tiles, which can save you from ripping up an existing tiled floor first (do a preliminary adhesion test on glazed tiles).Where to use itIndoors: full-surface bonding of solid timber and engineered timber floors, parquetry and strip panels, mosaic and industrial parquet, and chipboard, over concrete, cement-based screeds, timber subfloors and old ceramic tiles. Press the timber firmly into the adhesive while it is still wet and keep a 10 to 15mm expansion gap to the walls. Clean tools while the adhesive is uncured, using Sika Remover-208 or Sika Colma Cleaner. Cured adhesive can only be removed mechanically.Important notesSika's data sheet states this product is only suitable for use by professional wood floor applicators. Apply and lay within roughly 15 to 35 degrees ambient and substrate temperature (20 to 35 degrees with underfloor heating), with relative humidity of about 40 to 70 percent. Keep the adhesive at or above 15 degrees for good workability. The floor can be walked on after about 12 hours and sanded after about 24 hours, depending on conditions and adhesive thickness. Do not expose uncured adhesive to alcohol-containing products, as they interfere with curing. Where a ground-floor slab or other area has no damp-proof membrane, follow Sika's moisture-barrier recommendations (Sika Primer MB or MR Fast, or Sikafloor EpoCem) before laying timber. Selleys Plasti-Bond Heavy Duty is a two part polyester filler built for repairs that have to carry load, not simply look tidy. Once the hardener is stirred through, it firms up to a dense, rigid mass in about twenty minutes without the shrinking or cracking that catches out lightweight patching compounds, and it holds its shape well enough to be drilled, tapped and fixed into after curing. The 400g can covers the middle ground jobs that a small pack runs short on. What it is The pack contains an off white polyester putty base and a separate hardener that is mixed in immediately before use. Working time is short, around five minutes at normal room temperature, so the product is mixed in batches rather than all at once. Cured Plasti-Bond can be sawn, drilled, filed, sanded and painted, and the base can be tinted with cement oxides or paint tinters before the hardener goes in if a coloured finish is wanted. Where to use it Indoors: filling holes, cracks and splits in walls, ceilings, floors and doors; rebuilding worn areas around hinges, locks and door handles; making good chipped tiles and ceramics; anchoring bolts and fixtures into masonry; stopping countersunk fastener heads flush in almost any material. Outdoors: patching chipped concrete steps and paths, repairing galvanised guttering and downpipes, and restoring fibreglass, timber and metal on furniture, sporting gear, cars, caravans and boats above the water line. Outdoor repairs should be painted, since the cured filler can discolour if left bare in sunlight. How to use it Prepare the surface so it is clean, dry, unpainted and free of grease or oil. On steel or aluminium panel work that will see vibration, punch or drill the area first to give the filler a positive key. Stir the base thoroughly, then blend in the hardener, working the mix from side to side until the colour is completely uniform. Extra hardener speeds the set in cold weather; less hardener buys time across several separate fills. Apply with a putty knife or spatula, pressing firmly into the repair and slightly overfilling to leave material for sanding. Feather the edges as you go. Take off most of the excess with a Surform or file between roughly twenty and thirty minutes, while it is firm but not yet rock hard. Once fully hard, finish with ordinary files or sandpaper. Paint with water based or oil based paint. Clean tools with mineral turps before the product cures. Important notes Not suitable for continuous immersion or for joints that need to stay flexible. May not adhere to polyethylene, polypropylene or PTFE. Can discolour if left unpainted outdoors. Mix only what you can apply inside the working time; cured material cannot be re-softened. Replace the lid firmly after use and store the can in a cool place.
