  Davco K10 Plus is a premixed, ready-to-use, water-based polyurethane waterproofing membrane for tradies and builders, supplied here as a 20L pail in grey. It is a Class III membrane designed to sit under tile, stone and other resilient finishes on both walls and floors, in domestic and commercial jobs.About the formulaA one-part, water-based polyurethane that goes on straight from the pail with no mixing. It is rated Class III under AS/NZS 4858 and is highly flexible, with elongation above 500%. The manufacturer also lists it as non-toxic, UV stable and suitable as an anti-fracture membrane. Because it is water-based and solvent-free, it suits confined areas. Published technical figures include a Shore A hardness of 72 and a tensile strength of 2.1MPa.Where to use itIndoors: walls and floors in showers, bathrooms and other wet areas, ahead of tiling.Outdoors: terraces, balconies, roofs and walkways that will be covered with a hard finish such as tile.Suitable substrates include concrete, cement render and screeds, lightweight blocks, building boards approved for wet areas (such as compressed fibre cement sheet) and prepared metal surfaces. Let the first coat dry for about 1 to 2 hours, then apply the second coat at 90 degrees to the first. Add further coats if needed to reach the minimum dry film thickness. Tools can be cleaned with water while the product is still wet. Tile over the cured membrane using a Sika polymer-modified cement-based tile adhesive.Important notesAllow about 6 to 8 hours before tiling or applying other finishes. Allow 3 days before flood testing and 5 days before the area returns to service. Drying times vary with temperature, humidity and film thickness. The membrane is not designed to be left exposed, so it must be covered with a finish. It flows into uneven surfaces and small gaps between mating parts to make a high-pressure seal, and it is described by Selleys as sensor safe and suited to high torque and vibration use. Clean up uncured sealant with mineral turpentine. Cured sealant has to be cut and scraped away. Replace the cap after use. Let the sealant cure in the nozzle and pull it out before the next use. Important notesApply in conditions between -20°C and 50°C. A skin forms in about 5 minutes, so work promptly and assemble within 10 minutes of applying the bead. Where a cork gasket is being replaced, make sure parts such as rocker covers still have enough clearance and do not fully tighten until the sealant has cured. If you need to separate the flanges later, pry them apart and clear off the old sealant before reassembling. It suits both hand application and wet-spray machine application.About the formulaThe mortar is based on sulphate resistant cement, selected lightweight aggregates, a corrosion inhibitor and polymer modification. Sika describes it as low shrinkage, low permeability and sulphate resistant. The low density makes it easier to build up thickness while still being suitable for structural repair. On a well prepared, roughened substrate a bonding primer is generally not needed, even when applying by hand. It can also be used as a repair mortar before Sikagard 62 and 63N coatings, and it is compatible with the Sika FerroGard sacrificial anode system.Where to use itIndoors: repairing spalled or damaged concrete in buildings, including structural elements and superstructure works.Outdoors: repairing concrete in bridges and other infrastructure, and restoring cover over reinforcement where concrete has been contaminated or carbonated.Suitable for concrete repair, including restoration work and structural strengthening as set out in EN 1504-9. Layers can be built from 4mm up to 75mm in a single application.How to use it Prepare the area first. Apply by trowel, pressing the mortar firmly onto the substrate, or by wet-spray equipment. Finish once the mortar begins to stiffen. Protect the fresh mortar straight away from premature drying using a suitable curing method, such as a curing compound, damp geotextile or polythene sheet. Important notesApply only to sound, properly prepared substrate. Do not exceed the recommended water dosage, and do not add extra water while finishing, as this can cause discolouration and cracking. Avoid application in direct sun or strong wind, and protect freshly applied material from freezing. The recommended ambient and substrate temperature range for application is +5 °C to +30 °C. Final set is about 6 hours. It is a setting compound, so it hardens by chemical reaction rather than by evaporation. It is tinted so repairs are easy to spot on painted surfaces. It is designed to stick well to jointing tape, to shrink very little, and to sand easily as a topcoat. You can use it for every coat of a three-coat joint or as a base coat only. If you use it for all three coats with an open-weave fibreglass tape such as FibaFuse, you can sand the topcoat on the same day once it has dried enough. Press the timber firmly into the adhesive while it is still wet and keep a 10 to 15mm expansion gap to the walls. Clean tools while the adhesive is uncured, using Sika Remover-208 or Sika Colma Cleaner. Cured adhesive can only be removed mechanically.Important notesSika's data sheet states this product is only suitable for use by professional wood floor applicators. Apply and lay within roughly 15 to 35 degrees ambient and substrate temperature (20 to 35 degrees with underfloor heating), with relative humidity of about 40 to 70 percent. Keep the adhesive at or above 15 degrees for good workability. The floor can be walked on after about 12 hours and sanded after about 24 hours, depending on conditions and adhesive thickness. Do not expose uncured adhesive to alcohol-containing products, as they interfere with curing. Where a ground-floor slab or other area has no damp-proof membrane, follow Sika's moisture-barrier recommendations (Sika Primer MB or MR Fast, or Sikafloor EpoCem) before laying timber.
